Epicenter Release 6.1

Release date: October 2, 2026

Overview

This release adds a project issues page displaying simulation errors and warnings, user upload from Google Sheets, and email verification for administrator self-signup. It also improves multiplayer settings, LTI/Canvas user import, and authentication security. For simulation models it updates Python, NumPy, and Node runtimes. A new Epicenter Encyclopedia viewer documents all v3 REST APIs. On the administration side, this update rolls up the Epicenter Dashboard improvements from versions 1.15 through 1.18.

Epicenter Administration New Features

Workshop User Upload

  • Import users from Google Sheets: In addition to uploading .xlsx and .csv files, administrators can paste a link to a Google Sheet shared with Epicenter's reader address. Clear messages explain what to do when a link is not a Google Sheet, is a "publish to the web" link, or has not been shared.
  • Best worksheet selected automatically: When a workbook contains multiple worksheets, the upload now selects the worksheet that contains user data.

Organization User Management

  • Delete users not in workshops: The organization Users page has a new action to delete every user who is not a member of any workshop. The dialog shows how many users will be removed and requires typing "delete" to confirm; deletion then runs in the background.

Simulation Issues

  • Project Issues page: A new Issues page lists simulation errors and warnings for the project. Administrators can switch between errors and warnings, search by model, run, or error text, filter by date range, sort columns, and page through results.

Administrator Self-Signup

  • Email verification on signup: New administrators who sign up must verify their email address before they can log in. The signup page shows a "check your email" step, the emailed link completes verification and returns the administrator to login, and unverified login attempts offer to resend the verification email.

Epicenter Administration Fixes and Improvements

Multiplayer Settings

  • World controls consolidated in Multiplayer Settings: Allow World Reset and Allow Users to Self Assign moved from the general project settings page to the Multiplayer Settings page, so all world-related options live together.
  • Allow Users to Create Worlds: A new setting in Multiplayer Settings controls whether participants can create their own worlds.

Multiplayer World Assignment

  • Worlds with incompatible role assignments: If the multiplayer roles change after worlds were assigned, worlds whose assignments no longer fit (unknown roles or more players than a role allows) are flagged as Incompatible Roles, and their current assignments are shown read-only. Auto Assign is paused until those worlds are deleted, with a message explaining why.
  • Prevented early run configuration submission: The new run configuration form can no longer be submitted before its default name is ready, and it now picks the next available default name.

Workshop and User Management

  • Clearer upload errors: Uploading an unsupported file type now explains that only .xlsx and .csv files are accepted, and uploading a spreadsheet with no user rows shows a warning instead of silently doing nothing.
  • Member names shown when display name is empty: Workshop member lists now fall back to the user's given and family name when no display name is set.
  • Fixed participant MFA reset: Resetting a participant's multi-factor authentication from the user edit page works again on Epicenter 6.1.

Team Management

  • Improved team table: The organization Team table now shows each administrator's role and last login ("Never" if they have not logged in), with correct sorting. Errors while removing a team member, such as trying to remove the last owner, now appear as a notification instead of an error page.
  • Team projects default to password-protected: New projects in team organizations now default to the Authenticated (password-protected) access type.

Authentication and Login

  • Login field autofocus: The login page focuses the handle field, and then the password field, so administrators can start typing immediately.
  • Faster MFA entry: The one-time-code field gets focus automatically and submits as soon as the full code has been entered.

File Management

  • Unzip failures reported: Errors that occur while unzipping an uploaded archive are now shown to the user instead of failing silently.

Dates and Times

  • Consistent dates: Fixed an off-by-one error where a date chosen in a date picker could shift by a day depending on the browser's time zone, and made dates display consistently across workshop tables.
  • Date input validation: Date fields now reject impossible or out-of-range dates (such as five-digit years), and invalid dates in workshop filter URLs no longer cause a 500 Internal Server Error.

UI/UX Polish

  • Modernized interface components: The Dashboard's forms, dialogs, and form fields were migrated to a new component library and styling framework, improving consistency and long-term maintainability.
  • Organization names no longer overlap: Long organization names on the organization home page no longer overlap neighboring content.

Epicenter Administration (experimental)

This release includes a few experimental features that are not yet documented. Contact support@forio.com with questions on these features.

  • Build pipelines: A new Pipeline page lets administrators author, save, and execute build pipelines from the Dashboard. A pipeline is a sequence of operations (Git Synchronize, npm commands, clean, and copy), with an execution history, per-operation status, and log viewing for each run. Running pipelines update automatically until they finish, and an in-progress run can be cancelled.
  • Git Synchronize operation: Pipelines can include a Git Synchronize step that makes the project's files match a named branch of the connected repository. The first synchronization clones the repository into the project and requires explicit confirmation.
  • Visit charts in the project home: The project home now includes visit charts for the last 12 days, 12 weeks, and 12 months, alongside the existing run and login charts.

Platform/API Improvements

Security and Authentication

  • Current credentials required to change an administrator password: Updating an administrator's password now requires the current password or an MFA token. Password resets also accept an MFA token.
  • MFA remembered for one day outside an account: When an administrator logs in without an account context, a successful multi-factor login is now remembered for one day instead of being required on every login.
  • Repeat self-registration refused: Self-registration is now rejected when the user has already completed registration.

LTI and Canvas

  • Simultaneous multi-section enrollment: When a Canvas user is enrolled in several sections at the same time, they are now added to every corresponding Epicenter group.
  • Explicit group targeting for LTI 1.3 user import: The LTI 1.3 user import can now target a specific Epicenter group key.
  • Facilitators preserved during LTI 1.3 user import: Importing users from Canvas via LTI 1.3 now removes only participants from the group during synchronization. Facilitators, including the facilitator running the import, are no longer removed.

Projects and Models

  • HTML5 history routing: Projects can now opt in to HTML5 history routing (clean URLs without #) through the new historyRouting project setting, instead of the default hash routing.
  • Node 26 for JavaScript models: JavaScript simulation models can now run on the Node 26 runtime.
  • Python and NumPy updates: The Python runtime and the NumPy library used by Python models have been updated. The rollout schedule varies by an organization's hosting plan; for most customers, models now run on Python 3.14.4 and NumPy 2.5.2.

Other Improvements

  • Epicenter Encyclopedia viewer: A new viewer for the Epicenter Encyclopedia, showing all v3 REST APIs, is available at https://forio.com/epicenter/encyclopedia.
  • POST search: Chat, user, and vault searches are now available via POST /search, so complex filters can be sent in the request body instead of the URL.
  • Clear world personas: World persona settings can now be cleared at the group and run configuration (episode) level.
  • Sort by group name: Group listings can now be sorted by group name.
  • Consensus actions: Consensus barriers can now trigger actions when they close, such as starting a new run.
  • Miscellaneous: Improvements to site performance, stability, and security.

Platform/API Improvements (experimental)

This release includes a few experimental features that are not yet documented. Contact support@forio.com with questions on these features.

  • Project-level administration permissions: Administrators can now be granted, updated, and removed from a role on an individual project, rather than only at the account level. Team-member responses now include both account and project permissions.
  • Pipeline improvements: Build pipelines gain paginated execution history, parallel operations, log streaming, cancellation of in-progress runs, a Git Synchronize operation with repository and branch validation, and automatic cleanup of old pipeline records.
  • Report recipients: New APIs allow administrators to subscribe to scheduled reports, such as simulation error and warning reports.
